Music Video Of The Week 31-10-14

LATE AGAIN! I will remember to update these posts every Friday…one day! Haha!

This weeks music video of the week is from my idol Beyoncé in Pretty Hurts.

One of the reasons that I chose this music video for my feature is that I really like the message behind it. The fact that Beyoncé talks about the issues of appearance is this century that are very  relatable to all. It can be seen as an inspirational message to specifically young girls who may feel peer pressured into looking a certain way because of how their idols are portrayed on television and in magazines. However, it can also be targeted at boys too, as the same things happen to them too, which some people forget.

In the music video, we witness Beyoncé trying to perfect her presence and look by having lessons and undergoing the pre treatment for plastic surgery, which some people going through peer pressure feel is the only option for them. The song tells them that no matter how much you groom yourself, in the end it is your soul that you should be focussed on.

Beyoncé is taking part in a pageant along with a lot of other females all competing for the winning title. We then see Beyoncé in a room full of trophies that she has presumably earned from other pageants, but despite winning all of these, she didn’t win the pageant in the video which would portray the idea that she’s not pretty enough this time. This puts across the message that no matter how much you try and change yourself that it will never be enough for some people.

I really like this music video as it is extremely relevant to the issues children and adults  are experiencing today.

Music Video Of The Week 24-10-14

Uh oh! I am really behind on these posts at the minute, but here’s my selection for the music video of the week!

Flying Lotus Never Catch Me ft. Kendrick Lamar. Here it is…

After first watching this video, I was a little confused by the concept of the video, as it seemed very peculiar. However, post talking to my mum about it and listening to the lyrics, I was finally able to piece together how the video coincided. I think the fact that it was children was the initial reason why, at first, I didn’t ‘take a liking’ to the music video, but now watching it back, I think it was a clever move by the casting directors.

The video starts with a funeral taking place of two young children who then go to wake up and have an ‘out of body’ experience. The children can be recognized in the dance world as Will Simmons and Angel Gibbs, who a well-known dancers from the States.

The message behind the video is quite a touching one, as usually people say ‘your soul lives on’ , but until seeing this video, it may not give many people joy knowing that, but after seeing the children happy and dancing out of their bodies is sort of uplifting/ less daunting.

Music Video Of The Week 18-10-14

My choice for my ‘Music Video Of The Week’ which is one day late(oops!), is Sia Chandelier.

Not only is the video a ‘breath of fresh air’ from the majority of the music videos to be released this year, it has an unusual set up where the artist is nowhere to be seen. The video consists of a young dancer, Maddie Ziegler – from Lifetime’s Dance Mom’s, doing a contemporary piece in, what looks like, an abandoned apartment.

I felt that the concept of the video matched the lyrics but in a metaphorical sense. The artist used her youth being broken/confused to portray how she feels at the moment/being grown up.

The fact that Maddie dances throughout the whole video allows us enough time to uncover the story within.

The unexpected style of the set and video concept is the reason why I am absolutely drawn to this video. As well as the dancing being fantastic, the overall direction of the production was successful, with Sia being the director herself.

The Chandelier music video was nominated for Video of the Year and  and came away with the title of Best Choreography at the MTV video music awards 2014.

I know that I am not alone when I say how amazing I think this video is, as the video has managed to get over 245million views on YouTube!

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should check it out!

If you have, why not watch it again?:)

Hope you enjoy. R

The Gadget Show: iPhone 6 vs. HTC One M8

On Tuesday, October 14th, a few of us were invited to the BCU campus in Birmingham City Centre to be part of the audience for the filming of a segment in the Gadget Show. Luckily, the topic that was being discussed had a lot of relevance to the Factual Based Programming project we were in the midst of making. The topic being discussed was – Which Is Better.. the iPhone 6 or the HTC One M8.

Within the show, there were a few specific areas that were discussed before the final judgement was made. These included:

  • Design
  • Camera
  • Battery Life
  • Typing Test
  • Siri vs. Google Voice
  • Cost

For the majority of the poll’s taken, iPhone 6 were victorious, however, when it came to cost and battery life, they failed to get the audience completely on their side.

It was a fun experience, as I have never been on a set filming something like that before, where there is audience participation. This was an interesting project for me to sit in on, as I got a real-life insight into how those type of projects work. images images-1 images-2

Music Video Of The Week 10-10-14

I have seen a lot of music video’s over the past few months, but the music video I am choosing for my first appreciation post is :

Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PCkvCPvDXk

Not only is the feel of the song very different to those in the charts now, the music video has a very different and unique appearance.

To begin with, the main colour scheme of the production is pastel colours, which gives the video a softer atmosphere. The video also includes people of every race, shape and age which makes it approachable/relatable by a variety of audiences. It contains a story telling element where the children  are playing with their dollhouse whilst the artist sings about morals her mother has taught her, implying that she was taught these as a young child. The production features dancers, actors and a model, so it doesnt just have one dimension and is the reason why i really enjoy watching it.
