Stop Motion Animation Personal Production Diary

For the first few lessons we had, I was adding a lot of images and ideas to my sketch book including drawings and notes of colours and textures. Then I went onto make a mood board for our project with Emma. We used cut-outs from magazines for splashes of colour and then I printed off different cartoon images of frogs, lizards and turtles. After this, I started to come up with final ideas from the original sketches that I had created and coloured them in. I even experimented with abstract and literal backgrounds. Next, I began to think of a plot for our advertisement and then created the story board and timings.

28/1/2014 – In this lesson I created the body, legs, head, eyes, mouth and neck for my turtle character

In the beginning, sir had told me to make eye-lids for my character but after trying that out, they made my character look evil and that’s not what my character is suppose to represent. Sir also showed me how to make the incision for the eyes not to fall out of the turtle during production.

4/2/2014 – Today I made the shell for my turtle, started to create the dreadlocks for my character out of black Plasticine and then made the legs more sturdy by making an incision in the body and putting an extra piece of plasticine on side of the leg so that it could stick into the body and not move. We also created the background of our advert by ripping up different shades of blue and green tissue paper and sticking it down on the top half of the card and then we sprinkled sand onto the bottom half and stuck some down just to have a definite layer of sand.

6/2/2014 – Today the whole group decided to collaborate on the background for our animation project. We collected multiple colours to make sure our background had depth. We ripped up pieces of dark blue, light blue and green tissue paper to stick down on white card(which we had coloured in blue and green with chalk) to give the impression of the sea. We then covered the other half of the card in PVA glue, before sprinkling down sand to create a base for our production. After we finished this, I went on the create a string vest for one of our characters, to give it more character background.

11/2/2014 – Today, due to the content of our production, I created grey dreadlocks for my turtle character and continued to make the string vest for the frog. I also made a Jamaican coloured bracelet for the lizard character as that was the only character to not be wearing something that symbolised Jamaica or reggae.
